Kohl’s unveils clothing collection for adults with disabilities

Three years after introducing a line of sense-friendly, kid-friendly clothing, a major national retailer is also adding options for adults with disabilities.
Kohl’s announced this week that it will offer adult-friendly products through three of its largest private label brands.
“Kohl’s is proud to expand its adaptive assortments and offer inclusive collections for the whole family,” said Ron Murray, the company’s acting director of merchandising. “At Kohl’s, we understand how important it is to ensure that all of our customers and associates can celebrate their personal style and independence in a way that meets their individual needs. Our Adult Adapted Collection aims to create clothing that is accessible to everyone, regardless of age or ability, and to serve more of our customers with disabilities.

Women-friendly offerings will be available from Sonoma Goods for Life, Tek Gear and SO de Kohl brands, the retailer said. The men’s products will be sold under the Sonoma Goods for Life and Tek Gear brands as well as Tommy Hilfiger.
All pieces are designed to be comfortable and to make it easier for people with disabilities to dress independently, Kohl’s said.
Products in the collection include everything from leggings and jeans to long-sleeved t-shirts, jackets and sweatshirts. They offer special features such as wider necklines, functional leg openings and the ability to adjust the size for seated comfort.
Kohl’s said he worked with GAMUT Management, a talent management firm for people with disabilities that also consults with businesses on how to serve this population, to develop the new line and host focus groups with people with disabilities.
“By listening to customers across the country, Kohl’s innovative design team has been able to create new garments that provide new options for adults with disabilities and we look forward to continuing to grow in this market to meet the growing needs of our customers,” Michelle said. Company officials said the expansion into adult-friendly products follows the success of Kohl’s children’s offerings, which were first introduced in 2019 and now include apparel, footwear, costumes and toys.
Retailers have been offering more and more adaptive clothing in recent years, with most focusing on children’s products. Target and Zappos are among those that have also sold clothing aimed at adults with disabilities.
Child-friendly and adult-friendly styles are now available on Kohl’s website.
