MSU student creates her own clothing store
EAST LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – We love showcasing fun local businesses on Studio 10.
The next one is very special because it was started by a student at Michigan State University.
Onylah Taggart is only 20 years old, but she already has a brand new business in East Lansing.
She works around the clock to keep new and unique clothes available.
“If I see something hot online a lot of people wear it, so I want to put it on as fast as possible before it gets too saturated, so I like to be first and set the trends. I don’t want to play catch-up.
Onylah’s obvious passion for fashion and her drive to open her own home is attributed to the lack of black women’s clothing stores in Mid-Michigan.
“I wanted to open a brick and mortar. The decision was to put it here or put it in Detroit and I chose here because we don’t have any clothing stores so I feel like this is something that can really be addressed to more people.
She does all this work as a junior MSU and new mother.
Which was another reason she was able to set up this store in less than a year.
The store offers clothes, shoes, jewelry and handbags.
She takes pride in how far she has come and encourages other inspiring business owners to do the same.
“I would tell them to trust the process and not to give up, when you start you have to finish, so just have the job and be determined to get it through.”
