Opening of the first exclusively plus-size bridal boutique in Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Arkansas is taking a big step toward plus-size inclusivity with its first-ever plus-size bridal boutique in Fayetteville.

Kristal Hill, owner of Kristal Rose Bridal, says her dress shop makes it much easier for people of all sizes to say yes to dress!

“It was awesome,” said Monica Ray, a recent client. “I can’t tell you the last time I walked into a store and was able to comfortably try something on and it was a good experience.”

Most of the time, plus size brides don’t have many options and are forced to order their dress without trying it on. If the stores have a dress that fits them, it comes with a higher price tag.

Hill said it’s a lot to ask someone to buy a one thousand to five thousand dollar dress without trying it on your body first.

However, Hill doesn’t have to warn her customers about the cost of the extra fabric or the small selection since all of her dresses are plus size.

“There’s a mindset that as a plus-size woman, I know I’m used to this, I expect to have to pay more,” Hill said. “So I think what I see with dates is that they’re surprised at how many options we have.”

The dresses are also inclusive for the LGBTQ+ community.

“She’s got some stuff that can fit people six feet and taller,” Ray said. “So for trans women who have to come and want a new wedding dress or something, they don’t have to go and order dresses or add fabric because it’s all there for them already. .”

However, the pandemic hasn’t helped keep the price low or the shipping time short. Hill said supplies take a long time to get in and COVID-19 has driven the price up 15% since September.

Hill said brides sometimes have to give at least six to eight months for dresses to arrive.

Additionally, running a business with a specific inventory involves a lot of research to find designers.

Northwest Arkansas is moving toward greater size inclusion and Hill is excited to be a part of it.

“I think having more inclusive size ranges will be helpful for our general population, and it will just make people feel better about themselves in general,” Ray said.
