TATA’s Diamond Shop ZOYA Celebrates ‘Finely Crafted Journeys’ With Educator Indu Shahani
Dr. Shahani is the Founding President and Chancellor of ATLAS SkillTech University. Excerpts from the interview:
What prompted you to pursue your profession?
I was lucky to be born into a family of educators. I had the privilege of watching my father start HR College as founder and principal, and watching my brother who started his career teaching at IIT Bombay. However, it was my mother who inspired me to become a teacher, as she said that the feedback I will get from the smiles of the students will be far superior to anything else. The students were really my inspiration.
What does creativity mean to you?
For me, creativity is about building educational institutions of the future, preparing students and creating talents with knowledge and skills for the careers of the future. The world is changing dramatically and young India needs new skills and technological capabilities to match the jobs of the future. For me, creativity instills agility, resilience and problem solving in education.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
The most enjoyable part of being an educator is that the learning never stops; it is a process of learning, unlearning and relearning. We always learn from elders, peers and students. While creating institutions, I love the process of reimagining, reinventing, and rebooting education.
Zoya and you
ZOYA is a brand that places great importance on inspired design and creating an impeccably crafted artistic product. This is something that resonates a lot with me, as this is our goal with the students of our design school at Atlas University. In addition, ZOYA is a brand that bears the TATA House seal of trust, and trust has always been very important to me in my governance roles and as an educator.
