Tickled Pink Boutique in Downham Market explains how they survived the pandemic and are ‘busier than ever’ with a range of Italian made in Italy leather and perfect summer outfit ideas
An independent clothing store in Downham is ‘busier than ever’ after having to change its business model to survive the pandemic.
Tickled Pink is a quaint little boutique on the High Street, and when it opened in 2018 the store mainly sold pre-loved luxury pieces.
You can pick up a Prada cocktail dress for £40 or a luxury Oasis skirt that has been discontinued.
The store, which looks like a hybrid between a cozy lounge and a clothing boutique, had designer handbags and personality bags.
The space is run by Jan Moloney and his son Adam Moloney with his fiancée Kirsty Nicholson.
But during the lockdown they struggled to stay afloat, as many small businesses did.
Management had to change the model, despite its enthusiasm for sustainable practices such as selling pre-loved clothes.
Ms Moloney, who launched local advocacy after her business suffered a 60 per cent hit last year, hoped the increase in working from home would encourage more people to support shops on their doorsteps.
After the struggle and pleas for help from the local community, the women’s outfitters have found their feet and are now a favorite among Downham shoppers.
Tickled Pink have also launched their own website tickledpinkdownham.co.uk which has helped them immensely during the pandemic. Many people have turned to online shopping while working from home, and Downham was no exception.
Management decided to switch from a pre-loved stock to women’s clothing and accessories made in Italy – to suit all body types.
Mr. Moloney and Ms. Nicholson post regularly to their Instagram and Facebook feeds, showcasing the latest stock that includes Italian leather bags, floaty summer pieces and beautiful nature-themed brooches.
Ms Nicholson said: “With everyone working from home during lockdown, we’ve been busier than ever and now have a pretty decent online following.
“We engage with our audience and show them our stock – and of course they love the dog.”

One of their standout pieces is a lightly bejeweled maxi kaftan, which gives off a Middle Eastern vacation vibe.
Small leather bags are also popular, they add a splash of color to any outfit. Straps are sold separately, so you can customize the bag with something that suits your outfit and personality.
The straps can be printed camouflage, rainbow, glitter or plain.
